When to Consider Other Design Services

Economy Design is not intended for homes that are complex, highly customized, multi-story, elevated, or located in flood zones.

If your project requires a higher level of design input, flexibility, or coordination, we recommend exploring our Semi-Custom or Custom Design services.

Our Economy Design service is intended for straightforward residential projects where the layout and overall design are already well defined.

This service focuses on producing a clean, permit-ready set of drawings efficiently, without the extended design process of our higher service levels.

It is best suited for simple, single-story homes where the priority is a practical and cost-conscious path to construction.

Have a Plan—or Need One?

This service is designed for clients who already have a completed floor plan and are ready to move directly into drafting.

If you don’t yet have a finalized plan, we recommend starting with our ready-to-build house plans. In many cases, purchasing a pre-designed plan is a more efficient and cost-effective option than starting from scratch.

This Service Is a Good Fit If You:

  • Are building a simple, single-story home under 2,500 square feet
  • Already have a completed floor plan you intend to use as-is - can be drawn on graph paper
  • Prefer a streamlined process with minimal design revisions
  • Are prioritizing efficiency in both design and construction
  • Have a finalized plan and do not require design revisions

What You’ll Need to Get Started

This service requires a fully developed floor plan prior to beginning. The plan should clearly indicate all layout and design decisions, as it will be used as-is to produce your final drawings.

Your plan must include:
  • All walls, doors, and windows
  • Kitchen and bathroom layouts
  • Cabinets, appliances, and fixtures
  • Mechanical equipment (AC, water heater, etc.)
  • Electrical panel location

You may provide a plan you’ve created yourself or one you’ve purchased and have the rights to use.

What to Expect

Plans created under this service include:

  • Site plan
  • Dimensioned floor plan
  • Roof plan
  • Schematic electrical plan
  • Exterior elevations (4 sides)
  • One typical wall section
  • Foundation plan and details

These drawings are prepared to meet permitting requirements and reflect standard construction practices for cost-conscious residential building.

A Fixed, Streamlined Process

Economy Design is intentionally structured as a fixed process. The plans are drawn directly from the information you provide, without iterative design revisions or back-and-forth adjustments.

Because of this, it’s important that your layout and specifications are fully resolved before beginning.
If you’re looking for flexibility, design input, or the ability to refine your layout throughout the process, we recommend our Semi-Custom or Custom Design services.

Structural Engineering

Once the architectural plans are approved, we coordinate with a structural engineer to complete the required engineering package.

For efficiency, Economy Design projects utilize our preferred engineer. Engineering costs are not included in our design fee, but for typical homes within this service level, they are generally around $0.30 per square foot.

The engineering package includes structural specifications, framing details, fastening requirements, and other components necessary for permitting and construction.

Once engineering is complete, you will receive a digital PDF plan set for your records and for use in permitting and construction.
